Primary Bedroom Makeover: A Modern and Relaxing Retreat

We are firm believers that a primary bedroom should be both inviting and functional. Our clients reached out to us after a recent renovation and wanted us to create a space that infused modern elements with a cozy vibe. They wanted a place to retreat to at the end of the day, a room that felt like a sanctuary for them. Sometimes, you just need another set of eyes to look at your room with a fresh perspective! We were excited to help them bring their vision to life and absolutely love how this room turned out!

Their bedroom had a fresh coat of neutral paint but lacked any particular design style. Our client had been waiting to make bedding and furniture selections until she had narrowed down their design preferences and ultimately decided to go with a modern feel.

We started with a color palette of jewel tones and painted the accent wall behind their bed in Benjamin Moore Nightfall, which added the perfect amount of depth and contrast against the simplicity of the white throughout the rest of the room.

In most bedrooms, the bed is the focal point of the space and a headboard becomes more than just a functional piece: it is also the central design element of the room as well as the focal point of the space, often setting the tone for traditional, formal, modern or classic style. We selected this upholstered paneled headboard from Wayfair to add a more modern touch and to contrast the dark accent wall.

LIghting is a huge part of creating a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom. Avoid the use of overhead lights and instead opt for softer lamps or sconces. We added these Wayfair sconces to either side of the bed and these AllModern nightstands. When selecting furniture and fixtures, try mixing fabric, wood and metal materials to bring visual interest and different textures to the space.

Next it was time to think about textures! Rugs, curtains and bedding add layers of depth and warmth to a bedroom. We selected this Moroccan rug in a geometric pattern and added a simple, white bedspread and shams from Pottery Barn, providing a clean and classic element. To add dimension and visual interest to a bed, try mixing different but complimentary colors using throw pillows and blankets. These HomeGoods pillows in jewel tones added just the right amount of color while this Target throw blanket provided a cozy element!

We absolutely love how this room turned out and now our clients have a peaceful bedroom retreat that reflects their tastes and style!
